Exit Music

Exitmusic - The Sea (free)

Dark and ethereal with stampeding drums that build like tempestuous seas. You can hear the cigarette-smoke shapes that Aleksa Palladino makes with her lips.

Chairlift Played Cameo Gallery

Chairlift is back making and playing music again, this time without Aaron Pfenning. This may be a move for the better since some songs on their debut LP tended to drag. As a band focused around Polacheck's vocal talents, not only is Chairlift easier to like, they're way more fun.

They played Cameo Gallery Tuesday, June 21 and will play Glasslands tonight.

Bad Street--New Twin Sister

Twin Sister - Bad Street (free)

The opening synth flourishes sound like dancing on your toes. It's the same exaggerated mouth-shape singing as before, but "Bad Street" is a little more pop and a little more funk than either of Twin Sister's EP's. The bass comes through heavy because the guitar sound is obscured and forgotten beneath embellishments and tweaks. The spoken vocal at the end even feels a bit like Madonna. For some unknown reason though, the LP, Heaven doesn't arrive until 9/27/11.

Layers

Dan Deacon - Snookered (from the album Bromst)

Summer is here and that means layers are for your ears and not your arms. "Snookered" may be the easiest eight-minute song Dan Deacon has written. It's quiet and loud, but more interestingly its sections are partitioned poorly so that sounds leak between like water through half-closed doors on the Titanic.
