Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
In a song they sound like they never left.
With a four-on-floor drumbeat, "The Suburbs" marches along while the sound of Win Butler's emotive vocal climbs and swells like watching waves inside a glass box. It's like no other band that The Arcade Fire evoke emotional reaction. Part of that impact comes in the orchestral arrangements; in this song alone they feature a string-section bridge and throughout, a one-finger piano accompaniment. "I'm moving past the feeling" sounds so easy coming from a band that plays on feelings like keys of a piano. It's difficult to tell from just two tracks what this album will be about, or to what suburbs they refer, but after two highly thematic albums it's clear that this isn't the kind of band to publish an album of pastiche.
Needless to say, the anticipation for The Suburbs is practically peerless. Tickets go on sale for their August 4th show at MSG at 9 on 6/9.
For now, Neon Bible

Somehow there are two more songs available from their latest album and all of it really does sound pretty great!
